By the year 1670, as the buccaneer era was in decline, most of the pirates, seeking a new source of trade, turned to log cutting and trading wood from the island. They lived on the southern part of the island where there are flat lands and tried to grow some crops like tobacco. They sold the smoked meat and leather to those ships that came to the island.
